Former President Donald Trump criticized billionaire Elon Musk on his failed attempt to buy Twitter. Now, Musk is firing back.

“I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat [and] sail into the sunset,” Musk tweeted on Monday night. “Dems should also call off the attack – don’t make it so that Trump’s only way to survive is to regain the Presidency.”

Trump would be 82 at end of term, which is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America.

“Elon is not gonna buy Twitter. Where did you hear that before? From me,” Trump said at a rally in Alaska on Saturday.

Trump said he had predicted in May that Musk would never buy the social media company. Musk claimed the reason he is opting out of the $44 billion purchase is because of disagreements with Twitter over how many spam accounts are currently on the platform.

The former president mocked Musk further at the rally, noting the Tesla owner claimed that the first time he voted Republican was in June when he backed Mayra Flores of Texas for Congress.

“You know he said the other day, ‘Oh I’ve never voted for a Republican.’ I said I didn’t know that, he told me he voted for me,” said Trump. “So he’s another bulls**t artist.”

Recently, Musk said he was leaning toward supporting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in the 2024 presidential election.

“I’m undecided at this point on that election,” Musk said in a June 21 interview. He said he will commit $20 million to $25 million to support the candidate he chooses.

During the rally, the former president urged the crowd to join his own social network. Called Truth Social, the platform is a potential rival to Twitter with many similar features to the more well-known social media company. As an example, a retweet button is replaced by a “ReTruth” option.

The former president was in Anchorage, Alaska, to help two political allies. Kelly Tshibaka (R) is running in the August primary for the general election to the U.S. Senate in November while longtime ally Sarah Palin (R) is running in the primary for the U.S. House of Representatives.
