A White House staffer is being roasted for bringing attention to a video that led to people mocking her boss.

On Friday, July 8, President Joe Biden was mocked for appearing to read directions from the teleprompter.

“It is noteworthy that the percentage of women who have registered to vote and cast a ballot is consistently higher than the percentage of the men who do so. End of quote. Repeat the line,” Biden said.

A week later, the incident seemed to be fading into the background.

But then because the White House press team is incredibly bizarre, assistant press secretary Emilie Simmons tweeted, “Happy Fact Check Friday!”

She shared a quote from a fact-check that asserted, “Posts on social media shared a shortened clip of Biden’s remarks to falsely claim that he mistakenly read the cues off the teleprompter when he said ‘end of quote’ and ‘repeat the line.'”

“I’ll just leave this here,” she added.

Happy Fact Check Friday!

She shared a link to FactCheck.org which cited the White House transcript in an attempt to debunk the claim he read teleprompter directions.

The transcript claimed that Biden said “let me” before “repeat the line.”

However, if he did, he very quickly muttered the words very quickly. And the fact-checking site notes that it is “not clear” he said them.

“But posts on social media shared a shortened clip of that part of Biden’s remarks to falsely claim that he mistakenly read the cues off the teleprompter when he said ‘end of quote’ and ‘repeat the line,’ insinuating that he is becoming senile,” it added. “The videos in the social media posts don’t include Biden citing the full quote of the court’s opinion, so it isn’t clear that he was ending a direct quote and then went on to repeat it.”

Simmons was roasted for sharing the fact-check and bringing attention back to the incident:

I've never seen professional communicators so dead-set on highlighting and re-upping stories that make their boss look terrible.

UNLESS she's actually a mole working for our side. https://t.co/rQvTGcLWqZ

they’re actually still doing this, wow

— Katie Pavlich (@KatiePavlich) July 15, 2022

Why Simmons decided to tweet this out, aside from the fact that it was published on Thursday, is unclear.

It’s been a week and the world was kind of moving on. But by sharing this, it will just lead to the video being shared again and again.

This White House has one interesting communication strategy.
