Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) called President Joe Biden’s speech about Republicans “soul-crushing.”

During an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” host Shannon Bream asked Scott, “Is it really a pipe dream to think we can get to some kind of unity?”

Scott replied during Sunday’s interview, “Not at all, Shannon. The good news is that America always comes together after the crisis. I call it the aftermath mentality.”

He added, “Whether it’s 9/11, the most unified time I’ve seen in American history, or you look at South Carolina after the Mother Emanuel shooting.”

Scott suggested Americans are “the most exceptional people on earth, and we do unify after the crisis. The question is, can we have the type of leadership that unifies us without a crisis?”

According to the senator, what we have not seen from the Biden administration is “that type of unifying message that people rally around.”

He went on to mention Biden’s student loan cancellation policy and discussions around inflation.

“And why would we have the President of the United States deliver a soul-crushing speech that was unnecessary, polarizing, and inflammatory?” Scott explained.

He continued, “We have done better, we will do better, and that’s why elections have consequences.”

Scott’s interview with Bream on Sunday was Bream’s debut as the new anchor for “Fox News Sunday.”

Biden said during a speech on September 8, “We’re literally in a battle for America’s soul. I know I’ve been saying it for a year and a half, but I mean it,” before going on to say, “Extreme MAGA Republicans just don’t threaten our personal and economic rights; they embrace political violence. Think about it.”

He continued, “They refuse to accept the will of the people. They threaten our very democracy. They — and that’s not hyperbole. To this day, they defend the mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6.”

Earlier this month, the president went after “MAGA Republicans” while delivering remarks from Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, as IJR reported.

“Too much of what’s happening in our country today is not normal. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic,” Biden said at the time.

On Sunday, Biden commemorated the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks during an event at the Pentagon.

“It’s not enough to stand up for democracy once a year or every now and then. It’s something we have to do every single day,” Biden said.

He suggested this is a day “not only to remember, but a day of renewal and resolve for each and every American and our devotion to this country.”

Before delivering remarks, Biden participated in a wreath-laying ceremony.
