The defamation case between actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is being turned into a movie, according to a report.

Variety reported on Thursday that the movie, “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial,” will debut on the Tubi streaming service for free.

The movie features Mark Hapka as Depp and Megan Davis as Heard.

It will reportedly premiere on Friday, September 30.

Melissa Marty will join the cast as Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez and Mary Carrig as Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft.

The movie is being produced by Fox Entertainment’s MarVista Entertainment, as Variety reported.

It is written by Guy Nicolucci and directed by Sara Lohman.

Adam Lewinson, Tubi’s chief content officer, said in a statement the movie was accelerated into production “to capture a timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer.”

Hannah Pillemer, EVP creative of affairs for MarVista, told the outlet, “‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial’ is one of many timely, culturally relevant original movies to come from our expanding partnership and slate of movies being produced in collaboration with Tubi.”

She added, “Connecting viewers to stories with this kind of social currency and topicality make watching them a must for any fan of pop culture or celebrity drama.”

It appears that some Twitter users are not thrilled with the announcement.

One user tweeted, “I hope the set burns down.”

It’s hard enough that he went through six weeks of trial and now they’re making a movie about the whole thing? No one asked for this, so disrespectful! https://t.co/ys2JBRX7nF

In June, a jury found that Heard defamed Depp by claiming he abused her throughout their relationship.

Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.

He said in a statement “the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.”
