President Joe Biden is getting roasted for declaring the U.S. economy is “strong” while chowing down on some ice cream.

On Sunday, the president was asked if he is concerned about the strength of the U.S. dollar.

“I’m not concerned about the strength of the dollar,” Biden responded as he finished his bite of ice cream.

He went on, “I’m concerned about the rest of the world. Does that make sense? … Our economy is strong as hell… inflation is worldwide, worse off everywhere else than it is in the United States. So the problem is the lack of economic growth and sound policy in other countries.”

Biden’s comments come after the latest inflation report poured cold water on the idea that price increases might be slowing.

Additionally, The Wall Street Journal’s latest survey of economists found that they believe the U.S. will enter a recession in the next 12 months. The paper notes its most recent survey was the first time since July 2020 when on average, economists said there was a greater than 50% chance of a recession.

Check out some of the reactions below:

Ned Ryun, a senior fellow at the conservative American Greatness, tweeted, “I keep coming back to this video of this idiot grazing on ice cream, detached from reality, mumbling lies. . .”

Conservative radio host Clay Travis wrote, “Joe Biden saying, ‘Our economy is strong as hell,’ while eating an ice cream cone is so tone deaf and out of touch to what Americans actually see in their lives that it feels like the Democrats are intentionally tanking the election.”

“Joe Biden eating an ice cream cone like a child mumbling ‘our economy is strong as hell’ while average Americans can barely afford to pay their bills is a perfect representation of the Democrat party,” tweeted The Blaze’s Sara Gonzalez.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) wrote, “[Democrats] to American struggling under a 40 year high inflation rate: Let them eat cake?”

Making fun of him for answering the question while eating ice cream seems to be a bit unfair. That’s what he was doing at the time. What was he supposed to do, toss the cone behind the counter and answer the question?

It’s not like he was taking questions outside, heard the ice cream truck coming by, ran to it, bought the ice cream, and came back to answer more questions.

But this message of telling people, “Our economy is strong as hell, and be happy we aren’t Germany,” just comes off as out of touch — especially as a new CBS News poll finds 65% of Americans say the U.S. economy is getting worse.

Biden can smile and eat ice cream and tell people it will all be OK all he wants. But that does not make it a reality. And videos like this just give off the impression that he does not really have a clue about economics or understand the pain American families are facing.
