President Joe Biden is not making it a secret what his top legislative agenda would be if Democrats expand their majority in the Senate.

“The court got Roe right nearly 50 years ago,” Biden declared. “And I believe Congress should codify Roe once and for all.”

He went on, “Right now, we’re short a handful of votes. If you care about the right to choose, then you’ve got to vote. That’s why in these midterm elections, it’s so critical to elect more Democratic senators to the United States Senate and more Democrats to keep control of the House of Representatives.”

Biden then made an unequivocal promise about what the Democrats’ top legislative priority would be if they expand their Senate majority.

“The first bill that I will send to the Congress will be to codify Roe v. Wade. And when Congress passes it, I’ll sign it in January — 50 years after Roe was first decided the law of the land.”

There it is.

Do you like this promise?

The first thing Biden wants to do if Democrats keep control of Congress and pick up some seats is not to pass a bill that would help Americans suffering from inflation.

It’s not a bill to fix our immigration system.

And it’s not trying to pass legislation that would solve the energy crisis we’re facing either.

No, the first thing the president wants to do with a hypothetically expanded majority is to pass a bill to codify abortion access, and once again strip away the decision on abortion restrictions from the states.

And this comes even as MSNBC pointed out on its chyron during his speech that the economy tops the list of voters’ concerns.

The Senate is split 50-50, which means Democrats would need a sweep of even traditionally deep red states to accomplish his promise. Or Biden is vowing that his party would nuke the filibuster to codify Roe.

While Biden meant this promise to gin up support among Democrats, and maybe even female Republicans, he might just have given Republicans a great ad.

It tells voters exactly what they can expect if Democrats keep control of Congress and pick up a few seats in the Senate. And the first thing on their agenda apparently will not be trying to bring relief to Americans whose pocketbooks are hurting.
