Actor Chris Pratt has made an endorsement for a candidate running against Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) who is being backed by President Joe Biden.

On Sunday, Pratt expressed his support for billionaire Rick Caruso, a moderate Democrat, who is running for mayor of Los Angeles against Bass.

Pratt announced his endorsement in a post on Instagram.

“I’ve lived in LA for over 20 years. It’s been great to me. In that time I’ve seen what many residents here have seen, the city’s gradual decline into pain and utter disarray. If you live here, you know exactly what I’m talking about,” Pratt wrote.

Acknowledging he does not “normally support political candidates,” Pratt continued, “But in this election, there’s too much to lose.”

Pratt called on others to vote for Caruso.

“He’s a builder. He knows how to get sh*t done. He’s the guy for our city,” Pratt explained.

In August, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris issued a joint statement endorsing Bass.

“We are eager to continue to partner with her on innovative strategies to reduce homelessness and increase public safety and prosperity,” Biden and Harris said at the time.

They added, “Karen Bass has our friendship, and she has earned our respect through her leadership in Congress on crime prevention strategies, effective and fair policing, and the welfare of children and families.”

Politico noted the White House previously worked with Bass on the issue of criminal justice as she pushed a policing bill through the House.

Caruso has reportedly used close to $100 million in campaign funds on a “law-and-order message to make the race nearly a dead heat” leading up to Election Day, as The New York Times explained.

According to the latest L.A. Times poll, Bass holds a lead at 45%, while Caruso is closely behind at 41%.

The poll discovered 13% of voters remain undecided.
