Sam Brinton, a senior official at the Department of Energy, is facing another charge for allegedly stealing luggage at an airport.

KLAS News reported on Thursday that a felony arrest warrant has been issued for Brinton.

The charge is for grand larceny with a value between $1,200 and $5,000.

Brinton allegedly stole luggage at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.

This is not the first time the Energy Department official has been accused of stealing luggage.

Brinton was charged with stealing luggage from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport in September.

Fox News reports law enforcement reviewed video footage after the owner of the luggage reached out.

Police reportedly witnessed Brinton take a Vera Bradley suitcase, valued at $2,325, from the carousel and remove the tag identifying its rightful owner.

Law enforcement reportedly also observed Brinton use the luggage on two separate trips to Washington, D.C.

However, in October, the Energy Department official denied stealing the luggage, but confirmed to be in possession of it when police called.

“If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I don’t have any clothes for another individual,” Brinton reportedly told law enforcement, adding, “That was my clothes when I opened the bag.”

However, two hours later, Brinton called law enforcement back to apologize for not being “completely honest.”

Brinton, who is nonbinary, called the incident a mistake.

A court filing states, “DEFENDANT said when they opened the bag at the hotel, they realized it was not theirs.”

“DEFENDANT got nervous people would think they stole the bag and did not know what to do. DEFENDANT stated they left the clothes from the bag inside the drawers in the hotel room,” it added.

After the first incident, Brinton was charged with felony theft of a movable property without consent. That charge could lead to a five-year sentence, a $10,000 fine, or both.

Brinton was reportedly placed on leave about a month ago.
