A top House Republican is alleging the National Archives was blocked from disclosing that classified documents were discovered in an office used by President Joe Biden.

During an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” Tuesday, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) opened up about a meeting with a representative from the National Archives.

“Right before the National Archives came in, they handed us a letter from the Department of Justice informing them and us that the general counsel for the National Archives wasn’t allowed to say anything about the Biden documents,” Comer said.

He explained members of the panel conducted an interview with the general counsel for over three hours.

The interview allegedly revealed a double standard in how Biden was treated compared to former President Donald Trump.

Comer shared an example as he noted there are “pages and pages of press releases and information about the FBI’s raid into Mar-a-Lago and Donald Trump’s possession of classified documents” on the National Archives website.

But he noted a lack of press releases about Biden on the site.

The Kentucky congressman went on, “We asked the general counsel, ‘Why were there no press releases sent on Joe Biden once it was determined that he had classified documents in his possession?'”

“And the counsel said that he did do press releases, but he was ordered and told they couldn’t be published,” he continued.

He added:

“So we then asked who gave him the orders, and he said, ‘I can’t tell you that.’ But there are only two people who could have given him those orders, and that is either the Department of Justice with Merrick Garland or the White House with Joe Biden. So it shows, right there, that this Department of Justice, and this White House is interfering with this and treating Donald Trump very differently than they’re treating Joe Biden.”

On Jan. 9, it was reported a U.S. attorney was reviewing roughly 10 classified documents from Biden’s time as vice president found at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington, D.C.

Those documents were discovered in November before the midterm election, but their discovery was not publicly known until two months later.

The National Archives website contains several press releases and statements about classified documents retrieved from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

However, there were no press releases on the website about the documents found in Biden’s possession as of Wednesday morning.
