“He Gets Us” responded to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) criticism over the Christian commercials that aired during the Super Bowl game on Sunday.

“He Gets Us” spokesperson Jason Vanderground spoke to Fox News Digital about Ocasio-Cortez’s attacks against the ads.

“Our research shows that many people’s only exposure to Jesus is through Christians who reflect him imperfectly, and too often in ways that create a distorted or incomplete picture of his radical compassion and love for others. We believe it’s more important now than ever for the real, authentic Jesus to be represented in the public marketplace as he is in the Bible,” he said.

According to its website, the campaign ”is a diverse group of Jesus followers with a wide variety of faith journeys and lived experiences.”

Continuing, the website states, “Our work represents the input from Christians who believe that Jesus is the son of God as well as many others who, though not Christians, share a deep admiration for the man that Jesus was, and we are deeply inspired and curious to explore his story.”

In one of its commercials, viewers are encouraged to “be childlike.”

The message that appeared across the screen read, “Jesus didn’t want us to act like adults. He gets us. All of us. Jesus.”

On Sunday, Ocasio-Cortez criticized the faith-based ads on Twitter.

“Something tells me Jesus would *not* spend millions of dollars on Super Bowl ads to make fascism look benign,” she wrote.

She then received backlash on Twitter.

“Love your enemy equates to Fascism? You’re brilliant,” one user replied with a laughing emoji.

Columnist Steve Tobak also called her out on on her criticism of the ads.

“A twisted mind sees fascism in Jesus ads,” he wrote.

Another user by the name of “Colombian Necktie” criticized her for attacking a commercial that promotes unity.

“It’s sad to see when you find people spreading the word of god and you have to find some way to be divisive about it. We need God back in this country and you hate that it’s the one thing can could bring us all together in an instant,” he wrote.
