A jury has convicted disbarred lawyer Alex Murdaugh of killing his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul.

The verdict was delivered less than three hours into the deliberation.

Additionally, he was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

CNN noted prosecutors have indicated they will go for life in prison without the possibility of parole and spare him the death penalty.

Notably, Murdaugh goes on to face 99 different charges related to alleged financial crimes, as the outlet pointed out.

“We believe that we’ve shown conclusively that (the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division) failed miserably in investigating this case,” Murdaugh’s attorney Jim Griffin said prior to the verdict.

He added, “And had they done a competent job, Alex would have been excluded from that circle (of suspects) a year ago or two years ago.”

Outside the courthouse, Griffin told Fox News, “Obviously we’re disappointed but until he’s sentenced we will have no further comment.”

Prosecutors claimed Murdaugh killed his son with a shotgun and his wife with a rifle in 2021.
