President Joe Biden needed a little help to pronounce the name of a new national monument he is establishing.

During an event announcing his decision to designate the land as a national monument on Tuesday, Biden said, “I’m proud to use my authority under the Antiquities Act to establish the…”

“And I want you to know, it’s a big deal… the Ahavana Kwa May…” Biden continued.

After having difficulty pronouncing the name, he added, “I’m having trouble.”

Someone in the crowd shouted the correct name of the new monument: Avi Kwa Ame.

“Thank you,” Biden replied.

When someone else shouted the name, he said, “I got it.”

NPR noted Biden is establishing Avi Kwa Ame in Nevada and Castner Range in West Texas as national monuments.

The designation will seal off 514,000 acres of land from new development.

The president will also begin the process of designating 777,000 square miles around the Pacific islands southwest of Hawaii as a National Marine Sanctuary.

Biden’s announcement of the new national monuments comes as he is facing criticism from environmental activists over his decision to approve the Willow oil drilling project in Alaska.

CNN noted, “By the administration’s own estimates, the project would generate enough oil to release 9.2 million metric tons of planet-warming carbon pollution a year – equivalent to adding 2 million gas-powered cars to the roads.”

The area where the project is planned is estimated to hold 600 million barrels of oil.
