Author Stephen King sparked criticism after attempting to make an argument for abortion on Twitter.
On Thursday, King tweeted, “It has been said before, but it bears repeating: if men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.”

Another user called King’s take an “idiotic statement,” adding, “Our whole pro life argument is that Abortion is the sacrament of the left. We did an entire show last night discussing this topic.”
What an idiotic statement. Our whole pro life argument is that Abortion is the sacrament of the left. We did an entire show last night discussing this topic. https://t.co/CAxAGmNnWp https://t.co/oMJqyOWFf5

Journalist Cathy Young explained, “Trans debate aside, this was always a bad argument. 1. If men could get pregnant…it would mean we call female persons ‘men’ instead of ‘women.’ 2. We never abridge the liberties of male people? Really? ‘If men were the ones killed in combat, war could be a crime.’ Oh wait…”

The author has previously spoken out on the issue of abortion when the Supreme Court decided to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“It’s the best Supreme Court the 19th Century has yet produced,” King tweeted at the time.

King has also been very vocal about his disapproval of former President Donald Trump.
“I think he actually engaged in criminal behavior and, certainly, I felt that he was a sociopath who tried to overturn the American democracy not out of any political wish of his own but because he could not admit that he had lost,” King said during an interview.
He then called Trump a “a horrible president” and a “horrible person.”
