A driver in Colorado allegedly tried to avoid getting a DUI by swapping places with a “man’s best friend” in his car.

In a post on Facebook, the Springfield, Colorado, police department said officers conducted a traffic stop around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The post said the vehicle was traveling at 52 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone.

“The driver attempted to switch places with his dog who was in the passenger seat, as the SPD officer approached and watched the entire process,” the department said.

It continued:

“The male party then exited the passenger side of the vehicle and claimed he was not driving. The male party showed clear signs of intoxication and when asked about his alcohol consumption the male party ran from the Officer.”

Check out the post below:

However, the driver reportedly did not make it very far.

“The male party was apprehended quickly within about 20 yards of the vehicle,” the department stated.

It also said the man had two active warrants out for his arrest.

After the man was medically cleared, he was booked into jail for his warrants, and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving while ability impaired, driving under suspension, speeding 20-24 over, and resisting arrest.

Finally, the post stated, “The dog was given to an acquaintance of the driver to take care of while the party was in jail. The dog does not face any charges and was let go with just a warning.”
