Biden’s comment came as he criticized China’s Belt and Road Initiative, a series of Chinese-led infrastructure projects around the world.
The projects are seen as a way to improve trade and countries’ economies. However, the Council on Foreign Relations notes, there are concerns the initiative is a “debt trap” for countries that borrow money to fund the projects.
