Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is shredding the plea deal for President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

During an appearance on “Fox News Tonight” Tuesday, Cruz called the younger Biden’s deal a “really sad day for the rule of law.”

“And every American who cares about justice oughta be outraged. What happened today is three things at once. Number one, it is cronyism. Number two, it is camouflage. And number three, it’s corruption,” he continued.

The senator argued it was an example of cronyism because Hunter Biden would not get such a deal if his father was not the president.

He claimed it was “camouflage” by Attorney General Merrick Garland to make the Justice Department look impartial.

“I predicted months ago that what happened today is exactly what would happen… I said Merrick Garland is going to indict Hunter Biden because he wants to be able to say, ‘Look how even-handed I am. I indicted a Biden. I indicted a Trump.'”

Finally, Cruz argued it is an example of corruption.

“The purpose of this indictment… it’s for the media to say, ‘It’s all over, don’t look into the big guy,'” he claimed.

A court filing on Tuesday showed Hunter Biden will plead guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax.

The younger Biden will also plead guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

According to The Hill, if a judge accepts the plea deal, Hunter Biden would likely avoid prison time.

White House Counsel Office spokesman Ian Sams told reporters about the news, “The president and first lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life.”

The Wall Street Journal notes the guilty plea will avoid a trial as his father is running for re-election.

While Republicans argued Hunter Biden’s deal was too good, CNN legal analyst Jennifer Rodgers argued it is “totally standard” for people in similar situations.

“I think it’s a good deal for Hunter Biden in that he will stay out of prison and end up with only two misdemeanors on his record. But it’s certainly not a sweetheart deal out of line with what happens in the rest of the country,” Rodgers said.
