Outrage ensued after a biological male won the title of Miss Netherlands 2023, beating out nine women on Saturday.
On Sunday, Dutch commentator Eva Vlaardingerbroek spoke out against the decision on Twitter.
“A man just won ‘Miss Netherlands’ 2023. Considering the fact that we live in a post-Truth (sic) world, I wasn’t even expecting anything else,” she wrote.
Vlaardingerbroek added the win was “all so predictable and unoriginal at this point.”
In response to her post, users on Twitter echoed the same sentiments.
“It’s absolutely pathetic and sickening… Hey (sic) women they are knocking you back to the Stone Ages, mocking you, invading your personal spaces, etc etc. When the heck you going stand up?” one user wrote.
Another user accused former president and Miss Universe pageant owner, Donald Trump, of allegedly spearheading the inclusion of biological men participating in pageants.
“There are 8.7 million women who live in The Netherlands. Why, then, did they need to pick a man to win their Miss Netherlands contest?” one user inquired, calling it a “disgrace.”

In a separate post, one user noted, “The Netherlands is home to some of the most beautiful women on earth.”
“Of all these beautiful women, they just nominated a transgender man to be Miss Netherlands 2023. A man with a penis should be disqualified from any female beauty pageant and the fact that statement will gain me haters is just insane,” the user continued.
According to Dutch public broadcaster NOS, Rickie Kolle, 22, “is the first trans woman to win the Miss Netherlands title.”
Kolle will also compete in the 72nd Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador later this year, the outlet reported.
Following the win, Kolle celebrated in a post on Instagram.
“I DID IT!!!!! It’s unreal but I can call myself [Miss Nederland 2023] It was an educational and wonderful process, my year can’t go wrong anymore,” the post stated.
Kolle added, “I am so proud and happy I can’t describe it. I have made my community proud and shown that it is possible.”
In the post, Kolle wrote, “I’m trans and I want to share my story.”
“But I am also Rikkie and that is what counts for me. I did this on my own and enjoyed every moment,” Kolle continued.
