A lawyer for former President Donald Trump insists one of his presidential primary rivals could be a “star witness” for him.
During an interview on CNN on Monday night, attorney Jesse Binnall argued former Vice President Mike Pence’s comments about Trump’s actions ahead of Jan. 6 will help their case in a trial.
“If you look at Mike Pence’s words and what he said time and time again, it actually supports Donald Trump. I think Mike Pence — if this ever goes to trial and I don’t think it should make it to trial, I think it should be dismissed — but if it ever does make it to trial, Mike Pence is going to be a star witness for Donald Trump,” Binnall said.
He continued:
“What he has basically said time and time again is that they may have had disagreements over the best way to act. But there was a conversation that needed to happen. Donald Trump thought that conversation about the propriety of votes belonged in the state legislatures… Mike Pence thought that debate should happen in the halls of Congress.”

Trump is facing charges stemming from Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
Smith alleges in the indictment that Trump directed an effort to block the certification of the election.
The former president has denied wrongdoing and claimed the charges are politically motivated.
During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, Pence said, “In the days before [Jan. 6] the president was talking about us rejecting votes.”
“Then late in the process, his lawyers suggested that we return votes to the states. But frankly, the day before Jan. 6, if memory serves, they came back — his lawyers did — and said we want you to reject votes outright. They were asking me to overturn the election. I had no right to overturn the election.”
In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump lashed out at Pence, writing, “WOW, it’s finally happened! Liddle’ Mike Pence, a man who was about to be ousted as Governor Indiana until I came along and made him V.P., has gone to the Dark Side.”

“I never told a newly emboldened (not based on his 2% poll numbers!) Pence to put me above the Constitution, or that Mike was ‘too honest.’ He’s delusional, and now he wants to show he’s a tough guy.” he continued.
