A teenage driver was saved by a police officer and Good Samaritans after driving recklessly and flipping his car near Atlanta.
11 Alive shared footage that was captured by a bodycam. It starts with Sgt. Michael Peterson attempting to make a traffic stop. He then tried to pull the car over but found it flipped over on the side of the road just moments later.
The 19-year-old driver was ejected through the sunroof and pinned under the vehicle. He told the driver, “Hey man, stop moving, stop moving. We’re trying to get on it. Can you breathe?”
The officer was heard asking, “You can’t breathe?”
Peterson then jumped into action, organizing the passengers and bystanders to lift the car and pull out the driver.
“He can’t breathe. You, you and me will lift this car up right now,” the officer commanded.
“Someone get in there and pull him out,” he instructed.
More police officers arrived to help as they began. One noted, “Come on y’all, we got this.”
Together, the group lifted the 3,600-pound vehicle to free the driver. Sgt. Peterson then said, “He’s out! Good job, y’all.”
One of the officers instructed the driver to stay where he was, once able to breathe, and announced that an ambulance was en route.
13 WMAZ reported that the Lawrenceville Police Department later stated, “The 19-year-old driver sustained several injuries related to the crash and continues receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.”
“The actions of the four officers and the Good Samaritans likely saved his life,” they added.
The driver will be facing multiple charges once discharged from the hospital. These include: speeding, reckless driving, fleeing to elude a police officer, and unsafe lane change charges, according to Fox News.
Capt. Salvador Ortega stated, “We are very glad that our officers were there at the right place at the right time and this ultimately led to the driver surviving this dangerous crash.”
