In June of 2022, Greyson Butler was born 24 weeks into his mother’s pregnancy, weighing just 1 pound. Last week, he was finally able to head home for the holidays.
According to CBS New York, he was also diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and needed 15 blood transfusions to survive. He was born June 27, 2022, in Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y. He was discharged Nov. 1.
His mother Monay Harper noted, “I was instantly worried, but I didn’t know that the journey was going to be this long. Even when we held him, we were like so scared that he was going to break. He was so delicate.”
“Many days are so good but then a lot of days are stomach clenching, can’t even hold your head up,” she added.
Harper then stated, “We have our family, and our friends that has been by our side since day one, never gave up on us.”
Greyson’s father Jeffrey Butler opened up about his son stating, “He is perfectly fine to me. He’s smart, sense of humor.
He added, “He never stopped fighting. There’s a lot of situations that I’ve been through and I wanted to just throw in the towel and I’m like, if he could go through this, hey every day he never stops fighting? Then what am I gonna stop fighting for?”
ABC 7 reported that after battling five cases of pneumonia and undergoing two surgeries, Greyson pulled through. He now weighs 20 pounds and was finally cleared to go home.
His parents have both been trained to operate his ventilator and his tracheostomy machine so he can be home in time for Thanksgiving.
On the day of Greyson’s discharge, his mother said, “We’re finally walking out of this door, we did the calculations, it’s been 490 days inside a building.”
“He smiles, he’s like the face of all faces, you would never tell he had been through anything,” she added.
