Wisconsin faces a crossroads on April 1st. The outcome of the ten-year term Supreme Court race will determine if we go down a path of prosperity or not. The choice in this race is simple — stand with Brad Schimel — the candidate who will support the rule of law, our constitutional rights, education freedom and public safety.

While voters may not think a Supreme Court race could impact their economic prosperity, the outcome of this election will. There is a case working its way through the court system that will impact how much we all pay in taxes. Act 10 was the signature reform of former Republican Gov. Scott Walker, requiring public employees to contribute to their health insurance and pension plans.

When Act 10 makes its way back to the Supreme Court, which it most definitely will, the winner of the April 1st election could be the deciding vote on the case. Susan Crawford previously argued to overturn Act 10 – we can guess exactly how she will rule. For many families, that will mean a property tax hike of thousands of dollars, causing significant financial burden to taxpayers with over $1 billion in new government spending across the state.

For parents, this election should be more important than ever. Our top concern should be supporting candidates that will fight for all families’ ability to make the best education decisions possible for their children. For some families it means public school, for others home schooling and for still more private school. Brad Schimel will defend parental rights to make these important education decisions – without the heavy hand of government.

Public safety is critical in this race, and the contrast between Susan Crawford and Brad Schimel could not be clearer. Brad Schimel has dedicated his entire career to keeping communities safe – as a prosecutor, district attorney and attorney general, public safety has always been his top priority. A recent analysis from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel even shows that when comparing sentences for felony sexual assault between Susan Crawford and Brad Schimel, Judge Schimel’s sentences for the most serious cases are more than twice the length of what Judge Crawford handed down.

More disturbingly, during a recent debate between the two candidates, when Susan Crawford was given the chance to offer regret over an extremely lenient sentence for a child predator, she vehemently declined. Not once, not twice, but three times she stated she stood by her sentence.

As a mother, I cannot fathom Crawford’s soft spot for violent abusers and lenient sentencing for sexual predators. Wisconsinites know how important it is to protect the safety of our children, our communities and our state. We can’t trust Susan Crawford to stand up for us when she chooses time and again to stand with violent predators.

Americans for Prosperity Wisconsin has been talking directly with voters about the importance of the issues in this race since November of 2024, engaging over 600,000 voters so far. We hear daily from parents, business owners and community members alike and their message is clear — Wisconsinites know that Brad Schimel is the only candidate they can trust to protect their constitutional rights, their freedoms, the rule of law and public safety.

On April 1, Wisconsin voters must reject radical progressive Susan Crawford and demand a justice with strong integrity and a commitment to the rule of law. Wisconsinites, I urge you to vote for Brad Schimel – the future of our Supreme Court, and our state, depends on it.

Megan Novak is the AFP-Wisconsin state director, a proud Wisconsinite, and a mother.
