“Big Bang Theory” actress Kate Micucci, 43, revealed she had been diagnosed with lung cancer, though she claimed she had “never smoked a cigarette” before.
Micucci, who played Lucy on the show, announced in a TikTok video that she had lung cancer surgery the day before and praised the doctors for catching it “early.”
“Hey, everybody,” Micucci said in her video. “This is not a TikTok, it’s a sick Tok. Um, I’m in the hospital, but it’s because I had lung cancer surgery yesterday.”

“They caught it really early,” Micucci added. “It’s pretty weird because I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life so, uh, you know it was a surprise. But, also I guess it happens and so the greatest news is they caught it early.”
The actress, who is also known for her roles such as Velma Dinkley in “Scooby-Doo” and Shelley in “Raising Hope,” added the doctors had “got it out” and that she was “all good.”
“It’s been a little bit of a trip and um, I’ll probably be moving slow for a few weeks,” Micucci continued. “But, then I’ll be back at it. Can’t wait to, uh, be painting more, which I’ll be painting soon I think.”
Micucci was then seen walking around with an
IV stand and a nurse, commenting on how the artwork in the hospital was “pretty nice.”
In addition to acting and painting, Micucci is part of the musical folk band, Garfunkel and Oates.
Lung cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer. While lung cancer can be caused by smoking various forms of tobacco such as through cigarettes, pipes, or cigars, lung cancer can also be caused by secondhand smoke, being exposed to asbestos or radon at home or work, or from a family history of lung cancer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Around 10% to 20% of people in the United States who are diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked a cigarette or have smoked less than 100 in their lifetime, according to the CDC.
