An outdoor cat is being praised for rushing in to save a small dog from a coyote attack.

News Nation posted video footage captured by the owner’s security camera. The Havanese dog named Oakley was attacked by two coyotes while going outside for a potty break in Edmond, North Dakota, on Dec. 1.

During the struggle, the family’s black cat Binx jumped in and scared the coyotes off, likely saving Oakley’s life.

Owner Lane Dyer said, “It was inspiring to see just our little outdoor cat just jump at two coyotes that were attacking this little dog, who she loves, and run them off.”

Oakley was cut open and “gushing blood from chest and her side.”

She needed stitches and her leg was put in a splint. Veterinarians also feared that Oakley’s leg would need to be amputated, but she is reported to have made a full recovery.

Dyer told Fox News, “Oakley scampered in the house and ran upstairs,” after escaping.

Dyer’s wife took Oakley to the emergency animal hospital after wrapping her in a towel and putting pressure on the wounds.

“We had no idea what happened,” Dyer added.

Upon going through the surveillance footage, they discovered the cause of the injuries and were shocked to see Binx’s heroism.

Dyer noted, “She knew exactly what was going on — with no hesitation, she acted.”

“And once she got on the ground, she made a lot of noise, hissing — and pounced at the coyotes,” he continued.

He also stated, “Never in a million years would I have expected a cat to do that.”

Binx was a stray cat that the family began looking after when he was a kitten. Dyer explained, “We’ve tried to bring her inside, but she has no interest in being an indoor cat.”

She currently lives in the family’s backyard, and Dyer speculated, “I’m sure she’s been in a lot of situations where she’s had to defend herself.”
