Former President Donald Trump has reportedly ruled out naming Vivek Ramaswamy as his running mate.
But he may still have a place in a potential second Trump administration.
Bloomberg reported on Monday that the former president has told Ramaswamy that he will not be his pick for vice president.
Instead, Trump reportedly is considering him to lead the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
According to Bloomberg, Trump allies believe Ramaswamy would be a good pick for that department because of this Indian-American heritage, which they believe could help quell criticism of immigration policies.
Earlier this month, Trump was asked if he had ruled people out from consideration to be his vice president.
“Yeah, I, probably have a couple people that you may know very well,” he responded.
He added, “Some people that I don’t think behaved properly. Yeah, I think I’ve ruled some people out, but I’ve ruled a lot of people in… But certainly I have people that I wouldn’t want.”
Ramaswamy ran for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination while praising Trump as the best president of the 21st Century.
However, he drew the former president’s anger when after he posted a photo of him wearing a shirt that read, “Save Trump, vote Vivek.”
The post reportedly “infuriated” the former president.
