It’s not everyday someone confuses the sun and the moon, but that is what Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) has done.

Lee took to X, formerly Twitter, to correct a statement she made about the moon being made of gases.

“Obviously I misspoke and meant to say the sun, but as usual, Republicans are focused on stupid things instead of stuff that really matters.

What can I say though, foolish thinkers lust for stupidity!”

On Tuesday, a video of Lee came to light. According to a previous report by the IJR, she said, “You have the energy of the moon at night. And sometimes you’ve heard the word full moon. And sometimes you need to take the opportunity just to come out and see a full moon is a complete rounded circle, which is made up mostly of gases.”

“And that’s why the question is why — or how could we as humans can live on the moon. Are the gases such that we can do that? The sun is a mighty powerful heat. It is almost impossible to go near the sun. The moon is more manageable. And you will see in a couple of years that NASA is going back to the moon.”

Even though Lee corrected her previous faux pas, others were not inclined to forgive her, according to posts on X.

Her clarification is somehow dumber than her original comment. Your government… https://t.co/TuomdbOiZo

Sheila Jackson Lee said that the Moon is made up of gases but we can live on it because the gases are "manageable." Now she claims she was talking about the Sun, which would mean that she thinks we can live on the Sun. So her excuse is that she didn't mean to say that dumb thing.… https://t.co/iquRHyNQIo
