House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is suggesting Democrats might provide votes to help House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) keep his job.

During a press briefing on Thursday, Jeffries declared that the “world is on fire”and said, “American leadership is required.”

He then blasted the “do-nothing Republican House” for not passing a bill to provide more aid to Ukraine.

“I made the observation, not a declaration, that if the speaker were to do the right thing, and allow the House to work its will with an up-or-down vote on the national security bill, that I believe there are a reasonable number of Democrats who would not want to see the speaker fall as the result of doing the right thing,” he added.

His comment refers to a $95 billion package that would provide aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

The Senate passed the bill earlier this year, but so far, Johnson has declined to bring it up for a vote in the House as conservative lawmakers have balked at it.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) filed a motion to vacate the chair last month, but did not push for a vote on in.

Speaking to CNN, she said, “I’m not saying I have a red line or a trigger, and I’m not saying I don’t have a red line or trigger.”

However, she added, “But I’m going to tell you right now: funding Ukraine is probably one of the most egregious things that he can do.”

During an interview with X commentator Tucker Carlson, Greene questioned if Johnson was being blackmailed as she noted his suggestion that there would be a vote on Ukraine aid.
