President Joe Biden is taking heat after mistakenly saying an American being held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip was at the White House.

During an event at the White House, the president stumbled while reading remarks from the teleprompter, saying, “My administration is working around the clock to free the remaining hostages. Just as we have freed hostages already.”

“And here with us today is Hersh Goldberg-Polin,” Biden claimed.

However, he quickly caught himself and added, “He is not here with us. But he is still being held by Hamas.”

YIKES

Biden acknowledges a U.S. hostage, then corrects himself, bc the hostage isn’t in the crowd—he’s still held by Hamas

“And here with us today is Hersh Goldberg-Polin…and he’s still, he is NOT here with us today, he’s still being held by Hamas.”

How is this not utterly humiliating and awful for the country? This is completely expected by now. https://t.co/2jgjbaO4lw

The New York Post notes Hersh Goldberg-Polin is a dual Israeli citizen and one of five Americans who are still be held by Hamas.

It added, “The 23-year-old abductee had one of his hands amputated following his abduction as a result of injuries suffered during the attacks that killed about 1,200 people, including at least 33 Americans.”
