Far from taking issue with displaying the Ten Commandments in schools, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) is arguing it is time to get rid of Pride flags.

Speaking at the Faith & Family Coalition Conference on Friday, the Missouri senator argued, “We don’t need less Christian influence in our society. We don’t need less Christian witness in our society. We need more, in every part of government, in every part of society.”

“We ought to take the Pride flag out of schools and put the Bible back in,” he continued. “We ought to take the trans flag down from all of our federal buildings and over every federal building in America write the words ‘In God We Trust.’ Amen?”

Hawley quoted what President Dwight Eisenhower said when the national motto was made, “In God We Trust.”

“He said, ‘This motto will express the sense that we have that we are a unique nation called by God for a unique purpose.’ It’s time that we reclaim that. That we are not ashamed of that anymore.”

Hawley’s comment comes days after Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) signed into law a new requirement that schools in the state display the Ten Commandments.

The law requires schools that receive state funding from kindergarten to colleges to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms in a “large, easily readable font.”

“The legislation specifies the exact language that must be printed on the classroom displays and outlines that the text of the Ten Commandments must be the central focus of the poster or framed document,” CNN reports.

The law is expected to be challenged.
