Johnson Suggests Biden’s Cabinet Should Consider Invoking the 25th Amendment

WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 28: U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) talks to reporters at the U.S. Capitol on June 28, 2024 in Washington, DC. Johnson said that members of President Joe Biden's cabinet should "search their hearts" and evoke the 25th Amendment to remove him from office after his performance at Thursday's presidential debate against former President Donald Trump. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is asking members of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet to “search their hearts” and consider involving the 25th Amendment.

On Friday, Johnson was asked about House Republicans calling for the 25th amendment to be invoked.

“There’s a lot of people asking about,” the Louisiana Republican said, while noting that decision is up to the Cabinet.

He went on:

“I would ask the Cabinet members to search their hearts… And we hope that they will do their duty, as we all seek to do our duty to do best by the American people. These are fateful moments.”

Johnson was then asked if he was insisting the Cabinet should invoke the 25th amendment, and said, “If I were in the Cabinet… I would be having that discussion with my colleagues at the Cabinet level. I would … We’ll see what action they take. It’s a serious situation.”

The 25th amendment talk comes after Biden turned in a raspy, rambling performance at the debate where it was hard to hear and follow what he was saying, and now Democrats are reportedly in a panic about the future of his candidacy.

Fox News’ Jacqui Heinrich shared two texts she received from Democrats. One read, “The race is over.”

Meanwhile, another said, “We are f***ed.”

Meanwhile, The New York Times published several op-eds calling on Biden to step aside after the debate.

Yet, shortly after the debate, Biden was seen at a Waffle House.

One reporter asked, “Mr. President, how do you think you performed tonight?”

“I think we did well,” Biden responded.

Still, on Friday morning, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) unveiled a resolution urging Vice President Kamala Harris to “immediately use her powers under section 4 of the 25th Amendment to convene & mobilize the principal officers of the Cabinet to declare the [president] is unable to successfully discharge the duties and powers of his office.”
