On Thursday, Americans got an inside look at a stumbling Biden presidency.
Nixon vs. Kennedy is no longer the textbook example of how a TV debate can kill a candidacy. In fact, President Nixon’s infamous performance is a tour de force in comparison to Biden’s slack jawed performance. American voters watched in shock for 90 minutes as the current president appeared on our screens mumbling, looking confused, and struggling to articulate his views on key policy topics and national security issues.
At one point, Biden inexplicably exclaimed, “We finally beat Medicare!” Huh?
It isn’t surprising that Democrat operatives and commentators immediately started postulating about who could replace Biden on the ballot. But the problems that led to this debate performance are not solely because of Biden’s failing mental state.
For the past six years, Biden and the Democrats have spent all of their time fear mongering about President Trump. They have spent more time talking about their opponent in order to obscure their radical policy agenda from American voters. They have tried to turn former President Trump into a boogeyman to distract from their open borders, soft-on-crime policies, and pro-Marxist agenda.
Most voters were looking forward to the debate because it was an opportunity to listen to Biden and Trump, side-by-side, on these key issues. But, while President Trump articulated strong plans to turn our country around, most viewers’ main takeaway was a concern over whether Biden was fit to serve even another day in office, let alone four more years.
If the Democrats had a reasonable policy agenda which was representative of the American people’s views and main concerns, perhaps they could overcome Biden’s weakness and frail mental state. But after years of inflationary prices, open borders, and worsening global conflicts, voters’ patience is running thin. And now that they aren’t able to shield behind “Uncle Joe,” the Democrats’ extremism is completely exposed.
Americans of all backgrounds, including large numbers of black and Hispanic voters, are fleeing the Democratic Party in droves because their policies are out-of-touch with most American families and workers. Voters are looking for a president who hears their concerns, and most importantly, they are looking for a president who has solutions.
This is where Republicans must seize the momentum. For us, now is the time to organize and meet the moment.
If Biden stays on the ballot — and he should face voters after what he’s done to our country — we should expect the Left to kick their voter turnout machine into overdrive. We should expect them to use every dirty trick and tactic in the book, and Republicans cannot let this catch us by surprise.
Now is not the time to stare blissfully at polling showing President Trump outpacing President Biden or to look at Biden’t mental state and conclude voters would never support him. These two things are merging to create the perfect storm, and Republicans need to be ready.
Republicans must not cede the initiative to the Democrats. Republicans must press our advantages now and every day until November. Republicans must double down and engage with voters at every step in the election process. We must match the Left’s ground game strategy and utilize all legal tools to get voters to the ballot box, including absentee and early voting. We must beat them at their own game.
November could be a generational reset to save our country. Republicans are in position to win the White House, and we have the best opportunity to flip the Senate that we will have until 2030. By pairing our solid policy platform with effective operational plans, Republicans could win important seats and build durable majorities that will help get our country back on track.
Thursday night proved that it is vital for Republicans to win in 2024. If we stay focused and stay engaged, we will make America great again.
