A new poll shows the 2024 presidential campaign may be changing after President Joe Biden announced he would not run for re-election.

On Tuesday, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found Vice President Kamala Harris leads former President Donald Trump 44%-42%, which is within the survey’s margin of error.

The outlet notes, “Harris and Trump were tied at 44% in a July 15-16 poll, and Trump led by one percentage point in a July 1-2 poll, both within the same margin of error.”

The poll also found that when Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is included in the race, Harris lead Trump 42%-38%.

Fifty-six percent of respondents said they believe Harris is “mentally sharp and able to deal with challenges,” while 49% said the same of Trump.

By contrast, just 22% said the same of Biden.

“Some 80% of Democratic voters said they viewed Biden favorably, compared to 91% who said the same of Harris. Three quarters of Democratic voters said they agreed with a statement that the party and voters should get behind Harris now, with only a quarter saying multiple candidates should compete for the party’s nomination,” Reuters noted.

In a post on X on Sunday, Biden wrote, “In a post on X, Biden wrote, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

He shared he is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to be the new nominee.

“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” he added.

However, some conservatives have suggested he should resign as president if he is not running for another for years.
