The claws have come out now that a video has resurfaced of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) talking about “childless cat ladies.”
The statement by the Republican vice president nominee has garnered criticism from actress Jennifer Aniston and fans of Taylor Swift, known as Swifties.
Aniston, 55, posted to her Instagram Stories a screenshot of a social media post in which Ron Filipkowski, editor-in-chief of the MeidasTouch Network, posted a “Tucker Carlson Tonight” interview with Vance from 2021, USA Today reported.
“JD Vance says women who haven’t given birth like Kamala Harris are ‘childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives,’ and have ‘no direct stake’ in America,” Filipkowski wrote with a 28-second clip of the interview.
Aniston clapped back by posting, “I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of the United States. All I can say is… Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too.”
The conversation between Vance and Carlson aired on Fox News when Vance was running for the U.S. Senate seat in Ohio.
“We are effectively run in this country … by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too,” Vance said to Carlson. “It’s just a basic fact. You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez), the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children.”
“And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?” he added.
Harris has two stepchildren with her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. Transportation Secretary Buttigieg and his husband welcomed twins shortly after Vance’s interview.
While Swift herself has not responded to Vance’s statement, her fans have, per USA Today.
“Hell hath no fury like a certain childless cat lady who has yet to endorse a presidential candidate,” one X, formerly Twitter, user posted.
Swift endorsed the Biden-Harris ticket in the 2020 race, but has yet to endorse a candidate in this race.
