Vice President Kamala Harris plans to carve her own niche when it comes to a variety of policies, per Axios.

Part of her logic is to be less affiliated with President Joe Biden’s economic policies, which are considered unpopular. Instead, she plans to focus on the middle class.

“Harris won’t say it this bluntly in public, but her advisers do so privately: She wants to break with Biden on issues on which he’s unpopular,” Axios reported.

Harris will start to unroll her strategy Friday in North Carolina and unveil herself as a new Democrat.

While in Raleigh, she will tell voters her plans to lower the cost of health care plus focus on housing and food for the middle class.

She also plans to “take on corporate price-gouging.”

She’s being spurred by Financial Times poll which revealed she is more trusted than former President Donald Trump regarding the economy.

Her number one priority on her domestic agenda is inflation.

Part of that is distancing herself from Biden and their record governing together.

According to a Gallup poll, 80% of adults on the U.S. say they’re dissatisfied with the direction the country is heading.

She will also back away from policies she supported in the past, including being against fracking, for decriminalizing illegal border crossings, and for single-payer health care.

Building a strong foundation of policies is crucial for her campaign, Donna Brazile, a former Democratic National Committee chairwoman, said.

“She can’t break the glass ceiling with a weak foundation,” Brazile said. “She knows she has to be tough.”

She also wants to be seen as relatable to the average American.

For instance, when she talks of grocery prices, she seems more relatable than Trump.

She has also attempted to be more relatable when a campaign ad noted that she worked at McDonald’s while attending Howard University.

Per Ashley Etienne, Harris’ first communications director as vice president, Harris was also one of the first to speak of the “sandwich generation” — when adults take care of their parents and children at the same time.

“I realized that was me,” Etienne said. “She has the ability to see people who’ve been lost by the system.”
