Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) apparently took a jab at Vice President Kamala Harris for not having biological children of her own.
The dig came as she was introducing Donald Trump at a Flint, Michigan, town hall Tuesday, according to the HuffPost.
Sanders talked about getting her ready for a dance when her daughter said, ″‘It’s OK, mommy, one day you can be pretty too,’” Sanders said. “So my kids keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn’t have anything keeping her humble.”
“You would think after four years of straight failure, she would know a little humility. Unfortunately, she doesn’t,” Sanders added.
Sanders was criticized last year when she signed a bill stunting several child labor protections across Arkansas. This included eliminating a requirement that employers obtain work certificates for children under the age of 16.
Her office referred to it as an “arbitrary burden on parents.”
The month before she signed the bill into law, a food sanitation business was fined $1.5 million for having minors do dangerous meatpacking jobs in states such as Arkansas.
Harris has two stepdaughters through her marriage with husband, Doug Emhoff. However, Republicans have attacked her for not having biological children of her own.
Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Trump’s running mate, called Harris one of the Democratic Party’s “childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
Vance has since said his comments were misinterpreted. However, the term has been one of Vance’s go-to targets.
In 2020, he said being childless “makes people more sociopathic and ultimately our whole country a little bit less mentally stable.”
