Former President Donald Trump was backing the blue Sunday when he said police need the freedom to “do their job” without any restrictions.

“See, we have to let the police do their job. And if they have to be extraordinarily rough—” Trump said as he trailed off and claimed there are instances where people walk out of department stores with large appliances on their backs, The Hill reported.

Trump made the case for police during a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania.

“And the police aren’t allowed to do their job. They’re told if you do anything, you’re going to lose your pension; you’re going to lose your family, your house, your car. What the hell is going on?” Trump said. “They’re not allowed to do it, because the liberal left won’t let them do it. The liberal left wants to destroy them.”

All it would take is “one rough hour” to rectify, the Republican presidential nominee said.

“One rough hour — and I mean real rough — the word will get out, and it will end immediately, end immediately. You know, it will end immediately,” he said.

Trump campaign officials clarified that Trump was not putting forth any possible policy proposal but rather was speaking in a general sense about letting police crack down on crime.

Trump, who has been endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police, has often spoken that law enforcement needs to be able to do its job without fear of repercussions.

Trump also often talks about crime being out of control and that cities and suburbs across America are being overrun with crime.

However, the latest FBI crime statistics reveal a 3% drop in violent crime across the U.S. last year. This includes a big decrease in the number of homicides.
