NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell stated on Sunday that Vice President Kamala Harris has a “big problem with men,” warning the gender gap between the two political figures could impact the election’s outcome.

While national polls show Harris with a slight lead over former President Donald Trump, the GOP candidate has been slowly pulling voters from key Democratic blocs. On “Meet the Press,” Mitchell emphasized that Harris’s campaign needs to double down with less than 30 days to go, stressing the significant gap she has among both Democratic and Republican men.

“I think they’ve got to double down on doing more interviews, serious interviews, because what I’m hearing from Democratic and Republicans business people and a lot of men. She’s got such a big problem with men. I think there’s an undercount of the Trump vote,” Mitchell said.

“I think that there’s misogynation in all of this, black and white men. Big problem. But also, the business world, they don’t think she’s serious,” Mitchell added. “They don’t think she’s a heavy weight. A lot of this is gender, but she’s got to be more specific about her economic plans.”

Last week, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff appeared on MSNBC with Jen Psaki, and a clip from their interview went viral after he was asked about reshaping the “perception of masculinity.” Emhoff has voiced his support for abortion rights, stating in an NBC interview in May that men should view abortion not just as a women’s issue, but as a family issue.

Recent data from the Howard University Initiative on Public Opinion, conducted from Sept. 4 to 11, reveals that while Harris maintains 75% support among black voters, Trump has risen to 16%, a significant increase from the 7% he received in 2020. The Howard University data shows that 21% of black men under 50 are expected to support Trump, with 72% backing Harris. Additionally, 88% of black men over 50 support Harris, while 10% are leaning toward Trump this November, data shows.

The gender gap between Harris and Trump has significantly grown over the last two months and over the past few years as the parties have progressed. In the latest New York Times/Siena College poll, women within the key swing state of Pennsylvania favor the vice president 55% to 41%, as men favored Trump 52% to 39%.
