Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson raised $27.5 million in the third quarter of 2024, Punchbowl News reported Monday.
The sum, which the speaker’s office characterized as record-breaking, includes over $8 million for individual candidates and members alongside over $19.4 million for Johnson’s fundraising committees, according to Punchbowl News. Johnson has handed over $26 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) since he became speaker.
Johnson secured the gavel after Kevin McCarthy, who was known for his fundraising prowess, was ousted as speaker of the house in October 2023.
Republican leaders have been working overtime to boost fundraising heading into the 2024 presidential election amid concerns over Democrats’ massive campaign war chest. Democrats spent more on political advertisements in August than Republicans did in almost every major competitive Senate race.
The Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), a super Political Action Committee (PAC) which House Republican leadership and Johnson endorse, announced $18.5 million going toward new advertising reservations in September. Of this amount, $1.4 million is aimed at digital advertising while over $1.75 million is aimed at radio advertisements.
CLF announced that it raised $81.4 million during the third quarter, which tops its previous record of $77.4 million raised in the third quarter of 2020, according to a Tuesday report from Fox News.
“We continue to raise at levels that allow us to be incredibly impactful this cycle,” CLF President Dan Conston said in a statement shared with the Daily Caller News Foundation. “These crucial resources have enabled us to invest deeply and strategically add more in the must-win races that will determine the Majority.”
Democrats outraised Republicans in several swing states, including Minnesota, Arizona and Wisconsin in July. The Republican Party of Arizona raised a sum of $552,000 in July, while their Democratic counterparts raised $1.2 million.
Mike Johnson’s office pointed the DCNF to a press release announcing the haul when asked for comment.
