Former President Donald Trump was in lead in the race for the White House as the clock struck midnight in the eastern part of the country.

According to CNN, Trump had garnered 230 electoral votes compared to 183 by Vice President Kamala Harris.

North Carolina’s 16 electoral votes went to Trump as Harris gleaned 13, according to CNN.

Whoever achieves 270 electoral votes will be declared the winner.

The races in the battleground states of Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada have yet to be decided.
