Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Wednesday that reporters at President Joe Biden’s meeting with President-elect Donald Trump were more intense than she’s seen in the last four years.

Biden and Trump shook hands and exchanged brief remarks before reporters shouted questions, though the current and future president elected to not answer any inquires. McEnany, on “Outnumbered,” said the press corps “were quite ferocious” during Trump’s administration, but noted they have taken a calmer tone during Biden’s presidency.

“Something else I noticed is the press corps. Those of you probably remember, they were quite ferocious during Donald Trump’s tenure … When you listen to the pool reporters shouting at Trump and Biden, it was noticeably at a higher fever pitch, one that I have not heard in four years,” McEnany said.

Biden congratulated Trump on his reelection and pledged to move forward with a “smooth transition,” with the president-elect expressing gratitude, according to a transcript of their remarks.

“Politics is tough. And it’s, many cases, not a very nice world, but it is a nice world today,” Trump said. “And I appreciate it very much — a transition that’s so smooth, it’ll be as smooth as it can get. And I very much appreciate that, Joe.”

“You’re welcome,” Biden responded before thanking the press corp, who then loudly shouted questions over each other.

McEnany began serving as Trump’s press secretary in April 2020 and remained in the position until January 2021, often sparring with reporters during her tenure.

Trump secured a reelection victory over Vice President Kamala Harris with 312 electoral votes and a roughly two-point lead in the popular vote as of Wednesday afternoon, according to The Associated Press.
