Sen. John Fetterman (D-Penn.) believes a pardon would be “appropriate” for President-elect Donald Trump.

“I think that it’s undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden was really politically motivated but I also think it’s true that the trial in New York for Trump was political as well, too,” Fetterman said on “The View” Thursday.

He continued, “In both cases I think a pardon is appropriate and I really think collectively that America’s confidence in these types of institutions have been damaged by these kinds of cases, and we cannot allow these types of institutions to be weaponized against our political opponents.”

Fetterman was referring to Trump’s hush money criminal conviction. Earlier this week, Trump’s lawyers formally asked the judge to throw out the conviction.

Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan previously halted proceedings and indefinitely postponed Trump’s sentencing, after Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election.

Hunter Biden was pardoned by his father, President Joe Biden, on Sunday, as IJR reported on.

Per Fox News, the White House made a statement on Sunday night, stating the pardon applies to offenses the younger Biden “has committed or may have committed” from Jan. 1, 2014 to Dec. 1, 2024. Hunter Biden was convicted in two separate federal cases.

The president has faced criticism for his decision, including from his supporters and lawmakers.
