On her podcast Monday, SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly called out CNN’s fact-checker Daniel Dale for running “cover for Democrats” for saying that the Pacific Palisades didn’t lack for water.

Massive wildfires have ripped through Los Angeles County since last week, with many people saying that local and state officials demonstrated poor leadership and were not prepared to deal with the crisis. On “The Megyn Kelly Show,” the SiriusXM host said that corporate media, such as CNN, attempted to make the public believe that a reservoir near Southern California’s coastal town of Pacific Palisades had not run out of water.

“Now you’ve got the media, including CNN’s fact checker air quotes Daniel Dale, trying to tell us that there was no shortage of water in LA. I mean we know that the reservoir that serviced the area that burned to the ground was empty, but he’s like ‘There’s absolutely no problem with shortage of water in the LA area.’ Listen to this moron,” Kelly said.

Dale could be heard on CNN saying “There is no shortage of water in the LA area,” before adding that reports of fire hydrants being dry were due to “technical logistical infrastructure.” Kelly went on to cite a report from the Los Angeles Times. According to that report, a Department of Water official had acknowledged “the reservoir’s absence, the one we’re talking about for Palisades likely contributed to some diminished pressure and dry hydrants in upper regions of the Palisades.”

“So how do you figure that there’s no shortage of water in the LA area Daniel Dale? And that this empty reservoir had no effect? Who died and made you fire chief or Department of Water investigator? He knows nothing, this guy. All he knows how to do is run cover for Democrats,” Kelly said.

A fire in Pacific Palisades broke out Tuesday, forcing thousands to flee their homes as the community was burned to the ground. Janisse Quiñones, chief executive and chief engineer at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, said that the fire response put immense strain on the water system.

The Santa Ynez Reservoir, which is a large reservoir within the Pacific Palisades, was later revealed to have been out of commission since February 2024, leaving the area without 117 million gallons of water storage, according to the Los Angeles Times.

While Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom told NBC News on Sunday that the state’s reservoirs are full, he said there will be an independent investigation of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. His comments came after he told CNN last Wednesday that the lack of water in the area was up to “the local folks.”
