Val Kilmer, known for his roles in “Batman Forever” and “Top Gun,” has died at 65.

The actor died on Tuesday in Los Angeles due to pneumonia, his daughter Mercedes Kilmer confirmed to The New York Times.

As The New York Times reports, the film star was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, but later recovered.

Val Kilmer played in the 1984 “Top Gun,” as well as Christian Slater in the 1993 “True Romance” and Batman in 1995 “Batman Forever,” among many other roles.

Robert Downey Jr. once said of the star, “I’m sure this can’t be news to you that he’s chronically eccentric.”

Fellow actors paid tribute to Val Kilmer.

Actor Josh Brolin wrote on Instagram: “See ya, pal. I’m going to miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those. I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually get there. Until then, amazing memories, lovely thoughts.”
