Vice President JD Vance is getting some good experience leading up to a possible presidential run in 2028. But it is something he does not feel entitled to have.

At least that is what he said in a recent interview with NBC News when he talked about the next presidential election as well as his relationship with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. While many try to pit the two against each other, Vance said that is not the case.

“I can just feel it — the media is going to start telling some story of me versus Marco or me having a rivalry with Marco,” Vance told a political consultant recently. But, Vance said the two are constantly in contact — talking five times a day.

“That’s the level of trust and confidence that I have in Marco,” Vance said.

Vance continued with his chances for his own presidential run in 2028.

“My attitude is, if I do end up running in 2028, I’m not entitled to it,” Vance said. “But I really think that Marco and I can get a lot done together over the next few years. That’s how I think about our friendship and our relationship. And I would be shocked if he thought about it any differently.”

Watch:

Vance has been in the spotlight of late by being part of the American group to witness Pope Leo IV’s first Mass. After Sunday’s Mass, Vance and Rubio hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

However, President Donald Trump, while he has called Vance “very capable,” has declined to back him as the Republican nominee in 2028.

Vance himself said it is too early to back anyone.
