The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced recently it will open its doors to foreign Harvard students who may no longer be able to attend the American institution.

The university’s announcement came on May 23 after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it was revoking Harvard’s ability to host foreign students, forcing all current international students to transfer institutions or lose their visa status. HKUST said it will streamline the admissions process for Harvard students and those with offers from Harvard, stating it “emphasizes inclusivity and academic excellence.”

“As a leading international institution ranked among the top universities globally, HKUST is extending this opportunity to ensure talented students can pursue their educational goals without disruption,” the Hong Kong university’s announcement reads. “The university will provide unconditional offers, streamlined admission procedures, and academic support to facilitate a seamless transition for interested students.”

HKUST is openly supported by the Chinese government.

HKUST also said it will help students with “visa logistics,” transferring their credits and finding housing.

“Diversity fuels creativity and progress,” GUO Yike, Provost at HKUST, said in the university’s statement. “We are prepared to welcome Harvard students into our community, offering them the resources and vibrant environment needed to thrive in their fields.”

Despite the DHS’s announcement, the future of foreign students at the Ivy League university remains uncertain, as a federal court put a pause on the order almost instantly. The Trump administration has since taken other steps to limit radical foreign students in the U.S., including halting any new interviews for student visas and expanding social media screening for foreign applicants.

DHS claimed Harvard fostered a “toxic campus climate” due to allegedly allowing antisemitism to persist and submitted “inaccurate” foreign funding disclosures. However, university president Alan Garber claimed that the university has been complying with the federal government’s requests to tackle the issues. Harvard previously rejected the Trump administration’s demands to combat antisemitism, saying it would not “relinquish” its academic freedom and free speech rights and claiming it is managing the issues on its own. The administration immediately hit back with billions in federal funding cuts.

Harvard and HKUST did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
