The Pentagon is suspending its participation in various events hosted by “America Last” think tanks pending further review, Politico reported Thursday.
The Department of Defense (DOD) is temporarily refraining from sending its senior officials to various think tank events on the heels of suspending DOD participation in the Aspen Security Forum, according to a staff email obtained by Politico. The Pentagon had previously cited the “globalism” of the Aspen Forum as the reasoning for not allowing its staff to attend and speak.
“The days of ‘business as usual’ are OVER!” Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson said on X on Thursday. “The DOD’s Office of Public Affairs will be conducting a thorough vetting of every event where Defense officials are invited to participate. Going forward, no DOD official will attend events by America Last organizations that promote globalism and hate.”
The new process for being cleared to participate in think tank events will require the scheduled speakers to send in their remarks and talking points to Pentagon officials, according to Politico. Any events would have to be approved through the DOD’s public affairs department.
The email specifically named the Halifax International Security Forum, which meets in Nova Scotia, Canada, and usually features the Secretary of Defense as a guest, according to Politico. The Halifax forum specifically advocates for dialogue between the world’s democracies.
The forum also offers the John McCain Prize for those leaders who “demonstrated uncommon leadership in the pursuit of human justice,” according to the organization’s 2023 tax filings.
The Pentagon did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
