Former Vice President Kamala Harris is taking a break from political office because the system is “broken.”
Harris appeared on “The Late Show” Thursday when she told host Stephen Colbert about her break. She recently announced she was not running for governor of California, per The Hill.
“I don’t want to go back into the system. I think it’s broken,” Harris said. “I want to travel the country. I want to listen to people. I want to talk with people. And I don’t want it to be transactional where I’m asking for their vote.”
There is still some speculation she may run for president in 2028.
The former vice president was on the show to promote her new book, “107 Days,” about her presidential run in 2024.
She said she avoided the news after she lost to President Donald Trump.
“I’m just not into self-mutilation,” she said. Instead, she watched “lots of cooking shows.”
She avoided answering the question regarding differentiating herself from former President Joe Biden in the campaign. She said that is something addressed in the book.
Watch:
“It’s an instinct of mine to be someone who does not participate in piling on, and I was not going to pile on,” Harris said.
