Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman (D) says he will remain a Democrat, stating, “No, I’m not going to switch.”

Fetterman plans to remain a Democrat despite not agreeing with the threats by Democratic leaders to shut down the federal government this week.

The senator spoke with Fox Business Network host Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures,” per The Hill.

“I’m not going to switch. I’m just going to be an independent voice in the Democratic Party. I’m not going to be afraid of people,” he said.

Fetterman said he doesn’t agree with those Democrats who try to call President Donald Trump and his supporters “Nazis or fascists.”

“And if there are groups attacking a Democrat, the last one in Pennsylvania, then that’s part of the problem in our party,” Fetterman said. “And if you want a Democrat that’s going to call people Nazis or fascists or all these kinds of things, well, I am not going to be that guy … I happen to believe the truth, regardless if it’s the Republican or the Democratic voice.”

Fetterman’s independent leanings are popular to Republican senators, who want to increase their majority to 54 seats if he switched.

But Fetterman remain a Democrat with no plans of switching parties.

Fetterman said efforts to shut down the government are “always wrong.”

“That’s where my voice is, and if that puts me as an outlier and now that’s where I am,” he said.

He also defended his ongoing support for Israel.

“Now it’s end game,” he said. “And this war does have to end, and that’s why [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s been forced to do this and go into Gaza City. That’s why I’m going to follow Israel, just as I’ve done for now going on two years.”
