AI Video Shows Trump Tossing ‘Trump 2028’ hat at Jeffries

WASHINGTON, DC - OCTOBER 01: A screen displays AI-modified videos of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) that were shared on social media by President Donald Trump in the Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House on October 01, 2025 in Washington, DC. Vice President JD Vance dismissed criticism of the posts in today's daily press briefing, adding, "I'll tell Hakeem Jeffries right now, I make this solemn promise to you, that if you help us reopen the government, the sombrero memes will stop." One hallmark of late has been AI-generated video posted through social media — including by government leaders.

President Donald Trump leads the pack as he posted a new video Thursday night, which showed him tossing a “Trump 2028” towards House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).

In the video, Trump is shown sitting behind his desk in the Oval Office. He then tosses a hat at Jeffries, which then lands on his head.

Trump then points and laughs as The Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” plays in the background.

The post was created from photos posted aftet Trump’s meeting with Jeffries, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) earlier this week.

The photos showed “Trump 2028” hats in front of Jeffries and Schumer.

Jeffries told CNN the hats “just randomly appeared in the middle of the meeting on the desk.”

“It was the strangest thing ever,” Jeffries said. “I just looked at the hat, looked at [Vice President] JD Vance, who was seated to my left, and said, ‘Don’t you got a problem with this?’ and he said, ‘No comment.’ And that was the end of it.”

The Constitution forbids a president to run for a third term. Trump toyed with the idea.

This video was just the latest in a string of videos posted by government officials.

Trump posted AI-generated videos showing Jeffries sporting a handlebar mustache and wearing a sombrero.

Jeffries said the video was “racist.” Several Latino advocacy organizations also criticized the video.

Another video showed Jeffries and Schumer at a press conference with Jeffries with a sombrero and mustache. A mariachi band plays in the background of both videos.

Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) have said them videos were posted in jest.

Johnson said Thursday the posts were “games” and “sideshows.”

“Oh, I think it’s funny,” Vance said Wednesday. “The president’s joking, and we’re having a good time.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) posted his won video.

“The 44 Senate Democrats who voted for Schumer’s Shutdown should know that the Sombrero posting will continue until they re-open our government,” the post read. It was accompanied by a video showing the 44 Democrats wearing sombreros and donning mustaches as a parody version of “Macarena” plays with a Trump-like voice in the background.
