Well, it finally happened- Barack Obama has managed to build the one thing in Chicago more tone-deaf than the crime rate.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet the “Obamalisk.” That’s not a typo. That’s what it’s being called- and not affectionately. An $850 million, obelisk-shaped monument to himself, rising 225 feet into the sky like a granite middle finger to common sense, good taste, and historical transparency.
Yes, in the heart of a city drowning in debt, crime, and political rot, Obama’s legacy now comes with a view and an NBA-sized basketball court. Because apparently, nothing says “presidential library” like a three-pointer and a curated exhibit on “Hope
.”
JUST IN: Obama’s Presidential Library project in Chicago is facing massive backlash over design flaws and skyrocketing costs — and it’s still not opening until 2026.
Funny how every “legacy” project from Democrats somehow turns into a taxpayer money pit.
Thoughts?

And just when you think it couldn’t get more on-brand, President Donald Trump- not missing a beat- was asked about it and delivered exactly the kind of jab you’d expect. “It’s not too pretty,” Trump said from the Oval Office, with that familiar smirk. “He wanted only women and DEI to build it. Well? That’s what they got.”
Oof. Let it sink in.
President Trump destroys Obama’s Presidential Library

PRESIDENT TRUMP: “He needs help.”
REPORTER: “Have you seen it?”
TRUMP: “Yeah, not pretty. He wanted only women and DEI to build it. That’s what he got.”

Should the Obama Presidential Library's design and funding be reconsidered?
This isn’t just about architecture. It’s about ideology carved in stone. Trump didn’t miss the moment to remind everyone that when he built his tower in Chicago, he used actual builders — the kind who wear hard hats, not the kind who draft DEI statements. “We built it fast. We built it right. And we used the incredible workers of Chicago,” he said. And just like that, the contrast couldn’t be sharper: one man builds skyscrapers; the other builds shrines to himself.
But here’s the kicker — and it’s a big one. For all the fanfare, the Obama Library doesn’t even house the actual physical records of his presidency. Nope. Those are being stored somewhere else, under the National Archives, while Obama’s private foundation handles the digital versions. That’s right. You can tour his towering tribute, but don’t expect to get your hands on any real documents. Transparency? Historical access? Meh. Why bother when you can just digitize it all and slap a glossy, tightly curated filter on history?
Historians are already raising red flags. Because when a private foundation — run by the guy the library is about — controls the narrative and access to information, what do you think is going to happen? Spoiler alert: you’re going to get a highly polished version of events with more omissions than a CNN prime-time segment.
And if you think it’s just conservatives shaking their heads, think again. There’s real concern across the academic world about how this library is being constructed — both literally and figuratively. Because what’s being built isn’t just a library. It’s a sanitized memory palace, a monument to mythology, not truth. And at $850 million, it’s shaping up to be one of the most expensive vanity projects in American history.
But this is Obama we’re talking about. The man who turned “I” into a political brand, who gave himself a Nobel Prize for showing up, and who now wants to rewrite presidential legacy norms — all while Chicago burns outside his fortress of virtue-signaling.

I think it looks like a totalitarian command center dropped straight out of 1984.

Meanwhile, Trump’s not just trolling. He’s governing. The man is back in office, taking questions, cutting deals, and — let’s be honest — enjoying the fact that his own Chicago tower looks better, costs less, and isn’t an architectural cry for help.
So while the media scrambles to explain why a basketball court is somehow a tribute to democracy, and why Obama’s library doesn’t actually need physical records to be considered “historic,” one can’t help but ask the real question: What exactly are they so desperate to keep digital?
And why, after all these years, does Obama still need a taller, flashier monument to prove he was here?
We already saw the eight-year performance. We just didn’t think we’d have to pay $850 million for the encore.
