Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) was hospitalized “out of an abundance of caution” after falling near his home in Pennsylvania.
Fetterman fell and suffered facial injuries Thursday while on a walk, The Hill reported.
A spokesperson for Fetterman said the Democratic lawmaker was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital.
“During an early morning walk, Senator Fetterman sustained a fall near his home in Braddock,” the spokesperson said.
“Upon evaluation, it was established he had a ventricular fibrillation flare-up that led to Senator Fetterman feeling light-headed, falling to the ground and hitting his face with minor injuries,” the spokesperson continued. “He is doing well and receiving routine observation at the hospital. He has opted to stay so doctors can fine-tune his medication regimen.”
The self-deprecating Fetterman made a joke about injuring his face.
“If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!” Fetterman said in a statement.
Fetterman was home after voting with Senate Republicans Monday evening to end the government shutdown.
Since then, he has been doing many interviews regarding his vote as well as talk about his memoir, “Unfettered,” which was released Tuesday.
In the book, Feyterman talks about his clinical depression following a stroke in 2022 and the start of his term in Washington.
